In the 1950’s & 1960’s some really cool Cambridge architects and builders figured out a way to make and sell a cheap modular house. They built a few of them and marketed them as The core house. It’s a decent first attempt … just limited in size. It featured a central “core” with baths, utilities & kitchen that were flanked with a wide open space supported at the edge and by the core. The interior spaces could be different configurations as the walls weren’t load-bearing. so you could order yours from the builder with one of four unique floor plans. Here’s the brochure that an original owner gave me. It’s pretty amazing marketing.
There are very few of these around anymore, they make perfect teardowns.
You made it this far, I’m impressed. Just for you, see the written numbers below the words “construction” ? My sellers told me that those were for the upgrades, they went with the deluxe kitchen cabinets (made with better metal) and the tile upgrades in the bathrooms. Total was $43.50 and that could be built into the mortgage.
